The command bar and tabbed windows land in Scopo

This release changes what Scopo is. Until now it answered one question: where is that window? Starting today it also answers a bigger one: I know what I want, take me there.

The command bar

The switcher's search box was already the fastest text field on my Mac. Cmd+Tab, type three letters, Enter. It felt wasteful to use it only for window titles, so this release turns it into a full command bar.

Type and everything ranks into one list: your windows, your open browser tabs (Safari and the whole Chrome family; Enter jumps to the exact tab, even on another Space), installed apps, your Spaces, and bookmarks. Results you can switch to rank above results that would open something new, because switching is still the point.

Then it goes further:

• Instant answers. (1290*4)/3, 10km in mi, 100 usd in eur, today + 3 weeks. The answer is the result, and Enter copies it.
• Web search. A trailing search row catches anything that isn't a match, and bangs (g, yt, gh, wiki) send a query to a specific engine.
• Ask AI. claude explain this error opens Claude with the prompt pre-filled. Six providers are built in. You can add your own, save reusable prompts, or send one prompt to every provider at once.
• Files. f: report searches files. Type ~/Projects/ and browse folders inline with Tab. Unprefixed file results stay quiet on purpose, so they never drown your windows.
• Text tools. Snippets that paste into the app you were in, opt-in clipboard history (encrypted at rest, password managers blocklisted), a quick note that lands on a Space's shelf, and emoji search.
• System control. dark mode, empty trash, wifi, plus live volume and brightness rows you adjust with the arrow keys.
• Power tools. Quick links with a {query} placeholder, Apple Shortcuts as runnable rows, a media downloader with progress on the shelf, and saved workspaces (more on those below).

The interaction model comes straight from Quicksilver. Enter runs the default action. Tab opens an action pane with everything else you can do to that result, and some actions ask for a second pick, like "Move to Space…" sliding in a third pane. Esc steps back. Those four keys cover the whole feature.

One decision worth calling out: permissions are requested when you use a feature, never up front. Browser tab search needs macOS Automation consent per browser, so browsers you haven't authorized show an "Enable tab search" row in the results. Nothing prompts until you pick it.

Tabbed windows

The second half of this release lives in tiling. A tile used to hold exactly one window, and screens are only so big.

Now any windows can share one spot behind a tab strip. Drop a window onto the center of a tile, or onto another window's title bar, and instead of replacing the occupant they tab together under a floating strip. Terminal, editor, and docs in one tile. Three chat apps in a corner. Whatever the project calls for.

The strip works the way a browser tab bar does: click a tab or cycle with Option+Tab, hover for a live thumbnail, drag sideways to reorder, drag a tab out to free the window, close one with its ✕. The strip is also the group's window chrome. Drag it to move everything, resize it to resize everything, minimize the whole group to a single Dock icon, or extend it to fill the screen.

Layouts are only useful if they stick around, so groups and tiling layouts now survive restarts. Reboot, reopen your apps, and each Space's arrangement reassembles as windows reappear. You can also snapshot an arrangement as a named workspace from the command bar and re-apply it when a project comes back around. True to Scopo's privacy rules, the layout file never stores window titles in plaintext, and tab thumbnails never touch disk.

What's free and what's Pro

The split follows one rule: if it finds something that already exists and takes you there, it's free. Window and tab jumping, app launching, web search, the calculator and conversions, emoji, and system commands are free for everyone, forever.

Pro covers the features that create, store, automate, or ask AI: files, snippets, clipboard history, AI prompts, quick links, Shortcuts, the media downloader, and saved workspaces. Tabbed windows ship as part of Window Tiling, which was already Pro. If you're on Free and reach for a Pro feature by name, the row still shows up with a small lock so you can see what it does. Nothing nags, and nothing you saved gets deleted if you downgrade.
